New Graphic Novel

The character I chose to focus on is Prince Charming. In the beginning of the story Prince Charming is eating alone at a diner. He convinces a girl to pay for his food, and go back to her house and have sex with him. In the original story Cinderella, Prince Charming is very sweet and sensitive. He would bow down to a women, and never use them. The way the Prince charming acts from Fables shows he is very sneaky and has a way with words. Maybe he even killed Rose Red ?

What if Cinderella.....?

If Cinderella exsisted today I think she probabley would not be as nice as in the disney movie. I think she would stand her ground and not let her 2 step sisters walk over her. I also think her step mom would be in jail for child abuse.

If I were a superman

If I were super man id use the "don't age as fast as others power". Id love this power because you can remain beautiful and flawless without any plastic surgery! One disadvantage of this power would be if all of your friends were ageing and you were still physically young. You would have to hang out with people younger then you just to blend in.

Red cape man activity.

Pa kent an Clark  are unsure about Clarks powers because he is not his biological father, and Clark was found in a rocket when he was a baby. I  think the fear and concern comes from Pa kent not being able t shelter Clark when hes older. He does not know how people are going to react to Clarks super natural powers. Also I believe Pa kent is unsure is Clark is going to use his powers for good or for evil.

ASSESMENT

The graphic novel " Witch " and " Wolverine " are both very action packed stories. They have many similarities and differences. Both of them start out with having very strong powers and not being able to use them. Both graphic novels also show similarities and differences with the text, shadows, panel size and color. Both comics are drawn, colored and designed to add a visual element to the story. A picture is a worth thousand words. The way these pictures are illustrated say a lot. Facial expressions of characters really show what emotion there going threw, rather then writing it out.

The difference between the coloring in " Witch " and " Wolverine " is that in Witch the colors are more dark and gloomy and the colors in Wolverine are very loud and vibrant. This is because in Witch the story is more dramatic and revealing. Rather then in Wolverine, everything is very blunt and out there. The similarity's withing both coloring is when the scene does have a intense emotion, the illustrator chose to use colors to match the emotion. For example red for anger.

Both stories are rather dramatic in its own way. Witch is more of a shocking dramatic because of all the twist and turns. Like when her aunt and uncle kid nap her! Wolverine is more of a action drama, because of all the fighting and crime in the novel. Shadowing is a oftenly used technique in writing and drawing. During deep heart felt scenes in both of these comics, the shadowing is very similar. You can also tell the intensity of the scene because of shadowing. When the shadowing is a lite grey it might not be as server pertaining to as if the shadowing was a dark grey or black.

Another major contribution to making a graphic novel good, is panel sizing. Through out " Witch " the panels are rather big, emphasizing the severity of the situation. In the comic book Wolverine it is different. All the panels are very tiny, and there is many of them. This shows how active he is. However these panels do also show some similarities. When the scene is about to get heavy, the panel is big then it branches off into little snippet scenes.

There for, all graphic novels are similar and different in there own ways. My examples are some ways that they use Coloring, shadowing and panel size to show emotion. The two graphic novels have very detailed images. " Witch " and " Wolverine " have many similarities and differences and these are just a few ways you can see them.

Wolverine

The charater Wolverine is really a classic. The character is very eye catching with his retracatble blades and super natural powers. This leads to an important question, what type of person may this mysterious man be? The opening page of the graphic novel Wolverine says " I may not be doing the right thing, but im good at what I do." This is evidence that Wolverine is probabley not a productive member of society, but more of a delinquint.

Kylie Woods.

Yesterday we started reading the graphic novel Witch. Threw out this novel there is many OMG momments. Two of these " oh my god " moments I am going to discuss today. One is on the first page. When Kylie releases her familier Ridley. This was a shocking point because i was definetly not expecting a big cat to come out of her. Witches are usually portrayed as people with super natural powers. Another shocking moment was on page 4. When the hunters came and shot Kylie and Aaron, and Ridly blew one back and revealed her face. When you see that its Kylies aunt and uncle. I was shocked. The fact that they would kiddnap there own niece, because shes a witch is just crazy. These scenes are similer for the fact that both are very unextpected. They are diffrent because the situations are not the same.

Imaginary friend.

An imaginary friend is a figure of your imagination, that you can talk to about anything, play with and be your right hand man. The reason people have imaginary friends are because sometimes its nice to have somebody that you can talk to and they wont answer back. Somebody that will just listen to you instead of giving any feed back.

Number One scariest movie

The movie Jaws is known to be one of the scariest movies of all times. This ties also into people being scared of the dark. The things that scare people the most is the stuff they cant physically see but you hear about, like the boogyman. The opening scene of Jaws is very scary to most people, because you don't actually see the shark. All you see is two happy people, then one gets sucked under the ocean. This may also be horrifying to people because people go swimming everyday all over the world.

Compare and Contrast

The texts I am working with is 30 days of night and Halloween night dance. I am comparing the similarities and diffrences between the two. One similarity is that they both kill people senseless. The killer and the victims dont have any sentamental meaning within one another. Once example of this is from Night Dance, on page 20 Michael Myers kills an innocent girl. The girl is in a car with her boyfriend when suddently a girl runs out of the woods and gets hit by there car. When the girl gets out of the car to help the injered women. Michael senselessly stabs her from the back threw her chest.

Boogeyman

To me the boogey man is the thing the scares you the most. It is the thing that makes you scared of the dark. A man or a monster with all black eyes, and razor sharp teeth.

Predator or Parasite.

Parasitism is a type of symbiotic relationship between organisms of different species where one organism, the parasitism, benefits at the expense of the other, the host. Symoblicly Jennifer is a parasite. She hosts on men, and when they are at there lowest she looks at them with her big eyes, and sad face and guilt trips them into taking her home.  Jennifer uses the men to get cleaned up and so they can lead her to her food. She eats kids and small animals like cats. Parasites host on diffrent animals only to benifit them selfs. Like Ticks and dogs, a tick preys from dog to dog. They detatch there bodies from under the skin when there dont sucking your blood. Basically after they get what they want from you, they look for someone who can provide them with that fullness.

Isolation

This author shows isolation is so many ways through out the graphic novel Jenifer. One example of isolation is shown in this illistration. The shadowing in the image is very dark and dreary. It reminds me of when im sick. When im sick I like to close my blinds and lay in the darkness. Feeling sorry for myself. The way the moon light is shinning threw the window also reminds me of those cold nights, when the sky is cloudy and the moon light is peeking threw.

Jennifers smell

I'd picture Jennifer to smell very musty and old. Like mold thats been growing for months, or like a wet dog thats been rolling in mudd. Either that or like moth balls.

Jennifer

The graphic novel Jennifer is about a man browsing threw the woods, he sees a man holding an axe to a women and he tells him to drop it before he shoots. He doesnt stop, so he shoots him. Then he takes a step back, to analyize this women. Jennifer was hidious. Her face was deformed and she was hog tied. The man starts to panic, he has just shot a man, and he doesnt want the media getting a hold of the story. If they did, hed be gone forever. So he hides the body, and tells people he found her. He adopts Jennifer but his family, is scared. They dont want her there and shes not something pleasent to look at. The man tried to find her another home. Jennifer then gets obsessed. Steals his wifes gown and then goes in his room. Then she attacks him. In the end, the moral of the story was that karmas a bitch. He shot someone, trying to kill jennifer. Then he got shot, trying to kill Jennifer.

Despair

The crow book is about despair in many ways. Eric has lost his wife in a horrific crime and to really top the icing on the cake, he watched the whole thing happen. Not able to help, not able to move, just watched. After this tragidy Eric was left with nothing. His wife was dead, and so was he. Eric's life was nothing without Shelly. Eric carries emotional luggage on his back everywhere he goes. He is hopeless after loosing everything. His heart has turned stone, solid. Like a block of cement. The only thing on his mind now is revenge but even that won't bring the love of his life back.

The Crow

There is many myths and tales about the crow or raven. These myths have been followed for ages. The Native American tribe of the North pacific's myth about the crow or raven is most like Eric Draven and the crow. The raven is viewd as a trickster, a villan and hero simaltaniously. One example from the text that shows how Eric is a villian is during the crow far when he says " hello tom tom " and then hits him with a bat. He shows his villan side by killing him and having nor remorce. One example of his Hero side is when he sees the little girl sitting on the steps and shes crying and tell him about her mother. He gives the little girl a beautiful neckless with a diamand ring on it, and saves her mother.

Drama mask

I think that the crow is mostly a tragidy rather then a comedy. The author does throw in little snippets of comedy, like the fact that the mask is smiling and his little side comments that Eric makes as well. The type of comments that you don't know weather to laugh or cry. At first sight you would think Eric was a clown. Clowns are supposed to make you smile and I think thats how the artist shows comedy throughout the comic.  I think the author shows tragidy by using the fact that Eric is not remorsful when he kills people, and he hides behind his mask not showing his emotions. Also the author shows tragidy when he does flash backs of his past. It really shows how much pain hes been threw.

Comix in the classroom!

Hi my name is a Anastasia Tsamos and this is my blog. I do not like reading long passages so this graphic novels class is good for me. The comics aren't that long and they help me understand alot of things better because of the pictures. My favorite comic book is Iron man. This comic is about a wealthy man that gets kidnapped and is forced to make an armed suit to use against americans. The suit is made out of iron which is how he got the name. instead of useing this suit with bad intentions, he uses it to fight crime and to ward off evil. The reason why this is my favorite comic is because I enjoy his sarcasm and the way he presents himself. Hes badass and he knows it.
